Massakali Movement strives to empower the Indian Handloom Weaver Shabana Azmi, Bhagyashree and Sharmila Thackeray Grace The Event

In order to revive the Indian handloom industry, and to keep the craftsmanship of the Paithani weaver women alive and breathing, Shraddha Sawant and her brainchild Massakali had brought together more than 500 handloom sarees to an exhibition at Novotel, Juhu. Handloom lovers and actresses Shabana Azmi and Bhagyashree were present along with Sharmila Thackeray, actress Indira Krishnan, filmmaker Anusha Srinivasan Iyer and Indian ethnic wear influencer Mamta Sharma Das aka The Bohobaalika, among many other celebrities. It was a pleasure to see them mingle with the weavers and their families, showing exactly how special a place handloom has in their hearts, as they all walked in wearing exclusive Massakali creations.

Shraddha Sawant had flown in two of their Paithani weavers along with one of their looms to recreate the entire weaving atmosphere to give the onlookers the opportunity to have a go at the weaving process. Paithani sarees jostled with several other handloom sarees such as Benarasi, Chanderi, Khadi-Jamdani, Ikat, Zari, Kanjivaram, and Garhwal at the well attended exhibition. 

Decoding the name of the brand, Sawant explained, “Massakali means a bird in flight, and stands for freedom, peace and prosperity – all the things I wish for our weaver community this festive season, especially our lady weavers.”

Emphasising how difficult the situation is for the weaving community, she stated, “The weavers are a tremendously talented but impoverished lot, all for lack of connectivity with buyers. They deserve to be valued by the urban audience, and patronised suitably for them to be able to continue to keep alive the age-old traditional process of weaving. That’s where Massakali steps in, and helps them live their lives happily while continuing their chosen vocation.”

Wishing to infuse new economic oxygen into the art of weaving before the tradition becomes extinct, Sawant continued, “The handloom industry is a vehicle to provide rural employment to protect our cultural heritage. Through Massakali, I am trying to revive the tradition-bearers who are in a state of penury, as well as bring back the symbol of India’s glorious cultural legacy – it’s weaving art.” 

Sawant also teaches weavers how to create exclusive designer sarees, besides the traditional weaves. “At least, once in a month, we personally visit small villages and interact with the weavers. We also give them new design ideas. They feel encouraged and motivated,” she smiled.

“When we preserve the dignity of the Indian craftsman, we actually help ourselves. Handloom is not just eco-friendly; it also lessens the carbon footprint as the revival slows down rural migration, besides making us torchbearers of a resurgence of hundreds of marvelous regional Indian weaves and techniques." 

Shabana Azmi, noted as much for her onscreen magnetism as for her penchant for handlooms, admitted, “My love for handlooms stems from my childhood. My mother was also a huge patron of Indian handloom sarees. When I have played the role of a weaver’s wife in Shyam Benegal’s movie “Susman”, I realised that women are allowed only peripheral status in this trade. I commend Shraddha heartily for involving women weavers and empowering them in the process.”

Ageless beauty Bhagyashree shared a sartorial secret, “I have plenty of Paithani sarees which were worn by my mother, which I hope that my daughter would wear and that her daughter would wear some day, for a very simple reason – that they are strikingly gorgeous!” 

She makes an amazing point when she said, “With sarees like these that retain their beauty forever, it is not only ones’ jewellery that one can hand down to our children but also these sartorial gems.” Both the artists heartily endorsed the support of handloom usage in everyday as well as festive wear, and appealed to all to come forward in support of the weavers energetically.

पावसामुळे डेंग्यू, मलेरिया, सर्दी आणि कान-दुखणे यांसारख्या आजारांना आपण सहजच बळी पडतो. होय, पण हा वेळ कानाशी निगडित बर्‍याच समस्यांना कारणीभूत आहे.

ऑडिओलॉजिस्ट-स्पीच थेरपिस्ट आणि जोश फाउंडेशनच्या सह-संस्थापक देवांगी दलाल सहमत होत म्हणाल्या, “पावसाळ्यात कानात फंगल संक्रमण होणं खूप सामान्य आहे. अशा प्रकारच्या संसर्गांमुळे वेदनादायक खाज येऊ शकते ज्यात सूती कपड्याच्या आणि इतर तत्सम वस्तूंनी खाजवल्यामुळे हा त्रास वाढतो, ज्यामुळे संक्रमणापेक्षा जास्त नुकसान होते. लक्षात ठेवा की पावसाळ्यातील बुरशीजन्य संसर्ग मशरूमसारखे वाढतात. जर आपल्या कानांना एका दिवसापेक्षा जास्त दिवस खाज आली तर एखाद्या तज्ञाचा सल्ला घ्या. "

आर्द्र हवामानासह हया पावसाळ्यात मुख्य चिंतेचा विषय म्हणजे आपल्यातील रोगप्रतिकारक शक्ती कमजोर करते. देवांगी दलाल सांगतात की, "पावसात संक्रमण अधिक सामान्य होते कारण आपली प्रतिकारशक्ती सर्वात कमकुवत झालेली असते. योग्य खबरदारी घेऊन आपल्या प्रतिकारशक्तीला चालना द्यावी. मुख्य म्हणजे स्वत:च्या शरिराला उबदार ठेवण्यासाठी आणि आपल्यातील रोगप्रतिकारक शक्तीला चालना देण्यासाठी गरम पेयांची ग्रहण करा.”

“कानातले कालवे बद्ध होतात ह्याचे मुख्य कारण आहे,  कानात अडकलेले मेण किंवा पाण्याचे अडकणे हे आपणास कळणे सोपे आहे, विशेषत: या हंगामात सर्व प्रकारच्या वेदनांनी आपल्या कानांचे रक्षण करा आणि वेदना झाल्यास डॉक्टरांना भेट द्या कारण बुरशीजन्य कानाच्या संसर्गामुळे वेदना होतात आणि बरे होण्यासाठी कमीतकमी २१ दिवस लागतात.” असे देवांगी दलाल ह्यांनी सांगितले.

गुरुदेव श्री श्री रविशंकर यांना या गाण्यांविषयी माहिती आहे का? असे विचारले असता, आशा भोसले यांनी व्यक्त केले की, “मी गुरुदेवांशी गाण्यांबद्दल काही बोलने झाले नाही, परंतु मी त्यांना बर्‍याच वेळा भेटले आहे. त्यांच्या इतर सर्व अनुयायांप्रमाणे मी देखील त्यांना प्रिय आहे.”

ज्येष्ठ गायिका आशा भोसले ह्या गाण्याच्या निवडीबददल म्हणाल्या की,“ सर्व गाणी नृत्य किंवा प्रेमाविषयीचं असतात असे नाही. इतर भावना देखील आहेत, विशेषत: त्या ज्या आपल्याला देवाशी जोडतात आणि गुरुदेव यांच्या कृतज्ञतेत रचलेली ही गाणी आपल्याला भगवंताशी जोडतात.” योगायोगाने आशा भोसले यांनी या गाण्यांना संगीत देखील दिले आहे.

जनाई भोसलेचे तिच्या आजीबरोबरचे हे पहिलेचं सहकार्य नाही! ह्या गाण्याबद्दल सांगताना जनाई म्हणते की, “हे गाणे माझ्या हृदयाच्या अगदी जवळ आहे. ती माझी आजी आहे! आम्ही जगभर प्रोफेशनली म्युजिक कॉन्सर्ट मध्ये परफॉर्म केले आहे, पण जेव्हा आम्ही घरी परततो, तेव्हा ती माझी आजी असते जी माझ्यासाठी माझे आवडते जेवण बनवते... तिच्यात काहीच बदल होत नाही.” युवा प्रतिभावान गायिका जनाई ने श्री श्री रविशंकर यांच्या प्रति तिची निष्ठा व्यक्त करत  म्हटले की, "मी स्वतःला भाग्यवान समजते कि मला त्यांच्यासाठी गाण्याची संधी मिळाली."

अध्यात्माबद्दल त्यांच्या समान कल्पनाशिवाय, आजी-नाती ची ही जोडी एक आपुलकीचे बंध साधते. याबद्दल सांगताना आशा भोसले सांगतात की, “जनाई मला अजिबात त्रास देत नाही! ती खरोखर चांगला स्वयंपाक करते आणि प्रेमाने मला खाऊ घालते. सभ्यतेची तिला जाण आहे. ती आमच्या कुटुंबाला एकत्र बांधते. वयाच्या सातव्या वर्षापासूनच तिला भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीताचे आणि शास्त्रीय नृत्याचे प्रशिक्षण देण्यात आले आहे. आणि आता ती वेस्टर्न ऑपेरा शैलीत सुद्धा गाते. आता ती १७ वर्षांची असून शालेय शिक्षणासह संगीतात हि तालीम घेत आहे.”

रुबल नागी ने आदरणीय मंत्री श्री आशिष शेलार के सहयोग और रूबल नागी आर्ट फाऊंडेशन की पहल से 'मिसाल मुंबई' के अंतर्गत ज़ाफ़र बाबा कॉलोनी, बांद्रा पश्चिम में एक नई एजू-हब (बालवाड़ी) एन्ड स्किल सेंटर की शुरुआत की। आदरणीय आशिष शेलार और शेखर रवजियानी के हाथों से इस केंद्र का अनावरण किया गया।  इसका मुख्य उदेश्य महिलाओं और बच्चों को व्यावसायिक कौशल् संरचना और प्लेसमेंट  द्वारा आर्थिक दृष्टी से स्वतंत्र जीवन जीने में सक्षम करना हैं।

रोहित वर्मा यांचा आयएसीए २०१९ 'फेस्टिवल ऑफ इंडिया' जोरदार गाजला !

इंडियन अमेरिकन कल्चरल असोसिएशन (आयएसीए) , अटलांटा येथे आयोजित या २४ साव्या फेस्टिव्हल ऑफ इंडिया मध्ये डिझाइनर रोहित वर्माने त्यांच्या अग्रणी फॅशन शोसाठी टाळ्यांचा कडकडाक मिळवला. महोत्सवाचे ह्या आवृत्तीमधील रन वे वरील सादरीकरण यशस्वी ठरले, विशेषत: महोत्सवासाठी आयएसीएचे अध्यक्ष डॉ. (मिसेस) पॅडी शर्मा जेव्हा आंतरराष्ट्रीय डिझायनर रोहित वर्माच्या फॅशन शोच्या उद्घाटन अभिनेत्रीच्या रूपात रनवे वर उतरल्या.
आनंदित रोहित वर्मा म्हणाले की, “भगवान कृष्णाने मला ज्या सर्व संधी दिल्या त्याबद्दल मी सदैव त्यांचा आभारी आहे. मी डॉ. पॅडी शर्मा यांचेही रन वे वर त्यांनी केलेल्या सादरीकरणाबद्दल आभार मानतो त्यांनी खरोखरचं सर्वांना मंत्रमुग्ध केले.”

Revered producer Siddharth Roy Kapur and teen heartthrob Aditya Roy Kapur, along with their parents Salome and Roy, and Kunaal’s wife Shayonti, came together to attend the premiere of Kunaal’s loverboy debut movie Mushkil - Fear Behind You. The two brothers proudly walked alongside Kunaal and family, and gave everyone family goals!

”My family has always been supportive but they are critics. But I am glad we watched the film together and they loved it! People who love horror should surely watch Mushkil.” said Kunaal Roy Kapur. Mother Salome admitted she loved the ending whereas Shayonti Roy Kapur loved Kunaal the romantic, “I’m terrified of the horror genre but I loved the story in it.”

The joy and pride on the faces of Kunaal's wife, and the brothers' parents was there for all to see, especially since Kunaal was stepping into younger brother Aditya's romantic hero territory for the first time. 

Considering their busy schedules, one might think it would be ‘mushkil’ to catch the three brothers together, but love makes anything possible!

असे क्वचित होत असते की, २८ वर्षीय मुलांनी तिच्या वाढदिवसाचा केक कापला आणि तिचे अश्रू फुटले. पण ती सुलक्षना होती, जी २८ वर्षात पहिल्यांदाच तिचा वाढदिवस साजरा करत होती.  ८० लोकांचे कुटुंब आणि मित्र परिवार या आनंदात सामील होऊन तिला शुभेच्छा देत आहेत हे पाहून नक्कीच तुमच्याही डोळ्यात आनंदाश्रू येतीलच ना. आणि ८० कुटुंबाचे सदस्य ऐकून तुम्ही आश्चर्यचकित झाला असाल ना?  ज्या सदस्यांचा संदर्भ देतोय  ती अनाथ मुलं आहेत जी त्यांच्यासारख्या एकीचा वाढदिवस साजरा करण्यासाठी एकत्र आली होती. 

ह्या आनंदात महेंद्रू, शेखर सुमन, पॅपॉन, इस्माईल दरबार, श्रीकांत भारतीय सारखे सेलिब्रिटी सामील होते  आणि हे सगळं शक्य झालं सारिका गगन आणि गगन महोत्रा ह्या सुंदर जोडीमुळे. 

सुलक्षणा तिचा आनंद व्यक्त करत म्हणाली, "मी खरच भारावून गेले आहे. माझ्या बहिणीने मला अगदी लहानपणीच फक्त एक चिट्ठी हाती देऊन सोडून दिल होतं ज्यावर माझं नावे आणि जन्मतारीख होती. तेव्हापासून ते आतापर्यंत २८ वर्षांत माझा हा पहिलाच वाढदिवस साजरा झाला आहे! "

सुलक्षणाने आज तिच्यासारख्या अनेक अनाथांना आपले जीवन समर्पित केले आहे. ज्यांच्यावर अनाथाश्रमातून बाहेर पडल्यावर रस्त्यावर भीक मागण्याइतकी वेळ आली त्यांनाही ती मदतीचा हात देते. तिला अशी अपेक्षा कधीच नव्हती की ती  २८ वर्षांची झाल्यावर तिला सारिका आणि गगन महोत्रा सारखे गोड जोडपे दत्तक घेतील आणि आयुष्यभर तिचा हात धरून ठेवण्याचं  वचन देतील. 

"हे आश्चर्यकारक वाटते." सुलक्षणा आपले अश्रू रोखू शकले नाही. आपल्यापैकी प्रत्येकाने असे काही तरी नक्की करावे, हे या जोडप्याने उदाहरण आपल्यासमोर ठेवले आहे. सारिका आणि गगन महोत्रा सांगतात की, “आम्ही तेच केले जे आम्हाला वाटले. ह्या कृतीत असामान्य काहीही नाही. आम्ही फक्त आपल्या अंतःकरणाला अनुसरुन हा निर्णय घेतला.” 

चित्रपट निर्माते-उद्योजक आनंद महेंद्रू यांनी न केवळ अंधेरी येथे 'चंपक' स्टुडिओ उघडला तर आपल्या मित्रांना ही ह्या आनंदात सामील होऊन अनेक अनाथ मुलांना सामील होण्यासाठी आमंत्रित केले आणि त्यांचे स्वागत केले. "ह्या पेक्षा सुंदर काहीच नाही कारण अशाच पुढाकारांमुळे ह्या जंगलाचे रूपांतर उबदार प्रेमळ मायेच्या घरांमध्ये होऊ शकते. असे आणखी काही उपक्रम झाले पाहिजेत आणि आपण सर्वांनी मनापासून त्यात सहभागी झाले पाहिजे." असे भाऊक आनंद महेंद्रू म्हणाले. शेखर सुमन, पॅपॉन, श्रीकांत भारतीय आणि इस्माईल दरबार संभाषणादरम्यान उत्साही सेल्फी घेत ऐक्यात सहमत होते.

Ashish Shelar unveils Sangeeta Babani’s ‘Joyful Moments’, An Art Installation At Otters Club in the presence of Preeti Jhangiani, Jaswinder Singh, Swapna Mhatre, Vikram Rao, Samir and Dipalee Date

Sangeeta Babani, a distinguished artist also known for her art on cars, has conceptualized and created a unique mixed media 10 feet by 5 feet artwork. The said artwork, aptly titled ‘Joyful Moments’, was completed in a short span of just 3 months! Sangeeta has used various mediums in the said artwork, including wood, metal, sculpture paste et al, depicting the goings-on of the Otters Club.
With two inch moulded frames, Sangeeta Babani’s exhibit has been installed on the 1st Floor of Otters Club, the area catering to the most elite crowd of Bandra! The painting was unveiled over high tea with esteemed guests from different walks from life. Besides Chief Guest Hon’ble Minister for School Education, Sports & Youth Welfare of Maharashtra Ashish Shelar, Corporator Swapna Mhatre, Actor Preeti Jhangiani, Ghazal singers Jaswinder Singh, Samir and Dipalee Date, Vikram Rao, Akshay and poet Chand were spotted at the exquisite art affair.

Artist Sangeeta Babani, raised in Spain and settled in Mumbai, has studied Arts in Spain, a country rich in art and culture. Being a proud Indian, the immense cultural diversity of India is naturally ingrained in her and has influenced her immensely! “With this art installation, I aim to encourage the younger lot to follow their creativity and passion,” she avers.

Philanthropist Dr Aneel Kashi Murarka bags esteemed Bharat Gaurav Award 2019

Philanthropist Dr. Aneel Kashi Murarka was recently bestowed with the 2019 Bharat Gaurav Award in London. With the award ceremony being held at the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, he was honoured for his distinguished services to his nation and outstanding achievements in the individual capacity.
Having followed his heart while helping and servicing his fellow countrymen, Dr Aneel Kashi Murarka has never thought of recognition! “It does feel good, especially when one is honoured for what one does on an international platform,” he admits.

In 2015, Ample Missiion, a social awareness organization helmed by Dr Aneel Kashi Murarka, was set up with the hope to transform the society through awareness and timely action. Some of Ample Missiion’s latest campaigns include distributing sanitary pads to tribal women; helping acid attack survivors; organizing a sports day campaign for the specially abled, where the youth were educated on the challenges faced by the differently abled; helping people on the streets beat the summer heat wave by distributing lemonade, caps & earthen pots; and gifting a library to students of the Zeal English School in Malwani. Apart from these noble heartwarming initiatives, Ample Missiion also organizes Bharat Prerna Awards for the specially abled and Shoorveer Awards to felicitate ordinary people who have achieved extraordinary acts of bravery.

“More than the award itself, the very feeling of being acknowledged for what you are doing for the society is what is priceless! I believe even if some people are inspired to contribute selflessly after seeing what I do, I have succeeded in my mission,” he explains.

Dhvani Parag Dalal, daughter of Audiologist-Speech Therapist Devangi Dalal, is representing India in the International Folk Dance Competition held at Istanbul, Turkey. ब्युटी और वेलनेस के क्षेत्र में एक नया विकास पर्व शुरु होने के बाद त्वचा नैसर्गिक सौंदर्य और वेलनेस को एक नया स्थान मिला। इन्ही कारणों  की वजह से ब्युटी और वेलनेस के विशेषज्ञों को एक नया मुकाम मिला। पच्चीस वर्ष के कठोर परिश्रम के पश्चात रेखा चौधरी का नाम इस क्षेत्र में मशहूर है।  इस क्षेत्र में रेखा चौधरी ने  खुद की एक अलग पहचान बनाई हैं। वो भारत कि ग्लोबल वेलनेस अँबॅसेडर हैं। रेखा चौधरी वेलनेस इंडस्ट्री और खान्देश की प्रथम महिला हैं जिन्हें डॉक्टरेट की पदवी मिली हैं। 

अपनी ख़ुशी व्यक्त करते हुए रेखा चौधरी ने कहा, “पच्चीस साल पहले जब में सौंदर्य क्षेत्र में काम करने के लिये  शहर में आयी तब का समय बहुत कठिन था और जब मेंने स्पा और वेलनेस के क्षेत्र में प्रवेश किया तब वो वक्त काफी संघर्षमय था। में समझ गयी थी जीत की राह इतनी आसान नही है पर नामुमकिन भी नहीं । इसी लिए मैंने मेरा प्रयास जारी रखा। मुझे ख़ुशी है की मुझे पुरस्कारप्राप्त युरोपीयन स्किनकेअर अन्स एसपीए ब्रँड्स, रॅमी लॉरे, फायटोमर, एएसपी और बी।एल।बी। इतके साथ काम करने कि अवसर मिला। जग के हाय-एंड लक्झरी स्पा के साथ जुडकर काम करना, खुद के जुहू स्थित लोकप्रिय कॅरेसा डे स्पा, जिओ थर्मो थेरपी और रोप मसाज थेरपी जैसे मेरे विविध पेटंट ट्रीटमेंट्स् की अलग पहचान मिली है। हम गाव के आदिवासी युवाओ को सौंदर्य और वेलनेस का प्रशिक्षण भी दिया है। हम यही नही रुके शहरों के नामचीन स्पा और सेलोन में नौकरी दिला के उनके जीवन मैं सकारात्मक बदलाव लाये हैं। फ्रान्स के सोर्बन युनिव्हर्सिटी के डॉ. जॉन थॉमस प्राडे ने मुझे यह प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार प्रदान करके मुझे सम्मानित किया इसके लिए मैं उनकी शुक्रगुज़ार हूँ। खुद के पसंद क्षेत्र में अपने योगदान के लिए जाने जाना और पुरस्कार प्राप्त करना इस ख़ुशी को बया करना आसान नहीं होता पर यह ख़ुशी बहुत ही उम्दा होती हैं।  "
